March 2012:
- Circles: sacrament for percussion trio has been selected for the Beijing Modern Music Festival Young Composers Project and will be premiered at this year's festival in May. I am excited for my first trip to China, and for what promises to be a fantastic week of music!
- Violist Hannah Levinson and violinist Leah Asher will premiere movement II of Four Koans in May, and perform movements I and III in April. See events for details.
- Slagwerk den Haag and Barbara van Loon have commissioned a new collaborative work as part of Barbara's latest project Over Cirkels, mijn ziel en A-Coustic at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. I'll post links to more information as soon as it becomes available online.
- I have been selected to participate in the European Composers' Professional Development Programme, which will culminate in a new work for Icarus Ensemble, to be premiered at the 2012 Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
- Jiajia Qiao has commissioned a new percussion trio. This work will elevate the theatrical/choreographic element of percussion performance to that of a main ingredient in the piece.
- I will be the 2012 Composer-in-residence at the Lake George Music Festival this August, where they will premiere the full 4-movement version of Four Koans, and perform The Circular Ruins.
- World-renowned percussionists Gert Mortensen and Jiajia Qiao (together, Duo Cross-Fire) gave a stunning performance of 4-3-5: Can You Hear It? at the Young Nordic Music Festival in Copenhagen. It has been such a gift to work with them!
- Violinist Pasha Tseitlin and violist Meredith Treaster gave a compelling premiere of movements I and III from Four Koans at the Aspen Music Festival. Garrett Schumann did a nice review of the concert on Sequenza 21 here.
